I am a PhD student interested in combustion and other energy research. I am currently working on experiments with premixed sooting flames in the burner stabilized stagnation (BSS) flame configuration. The application of BSS flames within novel configurations such as liquid fuels and chemical ionization mass spectrometry (CIMS) will allow the development of improved theory of soot formation. For example, experimentally determined particle size distribution functions of soot within diesel BSS flames will improve combustion models for diesel engines. In addition, mass spectra of BSS flames can help determine whether long held assumptions of soot, such as the lack of persistent free radicals, can be challenged.
